Roadmap - COTS Applications
IT organizations have two choices when it comes to providing
end users with application functionality -- they can BUILD
or they can BUY. The COTS Applications Roadmap focuses on the
latter, encompassing all commercial-off-the-shelf application
packages.
This poster divides the world of applications software into
two halves: (1) horizontal cross-industry applications and
(2) vertical industry applications. The poster includes only
horizontal cross-industry product listings, and not vertical
industry product listings. The roadmap depicts horizontal applications
as a value chain moving from back-office/buy-side to supply
chain management (SCM) to enterprise resource planning (ERP)
to customer relationship management (CRM) to front-office/sell-side.
Goods and services move left-to-right through the value chain
while money flows in the opposite direction, from right-to-left.
Other product categories included on the poster are: Financial
& Accounting, Human Resources, Sales & Marketing, Order Management,
Manufacturing, Engineering, Distribution & Inventory, and Procurement.
